DRIVE or ROLL on in FORE a PAR-TEE!

Enclosed you will find the registration form FORE the 2015 NAQGCON as well as the registration form FORE the NAQGCON competition which is open to all NAQG members whether you attend the conference or not.  The theme is GOLF!

The 2015 NAQGCON will be held on April 24 & 25, 2015, at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center, 101 Fantasy Harbour Blvd., Myrtle Beach, SC  29579.  Rooms will be priced at $75.99 for Fri. & Sat. and $67.99 for Sun. to Thurs.  If you are considering attending, reserve your room early by calling 1-800-847-2707 or (843) 236-1000.  Be sure to let them know that you are reserving your room for the North American Quilling Guild Conference so you can get the special room rate.  Breakfast is included.  It does not cost anything to make or cancel room reservations (cancellations must be made 72 hours before your scheduled stay).  Hotel reservations must be made no later than April 9, 2015.

Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is a short taxi ride away.  There is free parking at the hotel.  The Boathouse Waterway Bar & Grill is located next door to the hotel.

A NAQG Conference is a very special event.  If this is your first time attending a NAQG Conference, please note that at the top on the Registration form.  In addition to getting an opportunity to meet other quillers, you will able to see their work and learn/try new techniques.  At this time there is no class schedule; I am waiting for you to tell me what you might be interested in, or giving a class/workshop on.

Please make and bring your own ID name tag to wear, making sure your name is large enough to read at a distance and includes your home state.  With GOLF as the theme, my husband Ray will set up TEE times FORE anyone that would like to play with him, getting the same local rate.  Email me if interested.

All conference events will be held at the hotel (2 group meals, competition, workshops/classes, and public hours).  The general schedule of a NAQGCON goes something like this.  Most people arrive sometime on Thursday, pre- register, and meet/greet old and new friends.  Friday is a day of classes/workshops and viewing competition pieces.  Vendors usually set up their tables so they are available Friday night and all day Saturday.  There might be some classes on Saturday morning.  Quillers set up their individual displays on Saturday morning and the day is spent viewing displays, giving & attending demos, vendor shopping, and having the public come in to view the art on display.  The voting and announcement of competition winners and raffle also takes place on Saturday.  During the whole time of the conference, the Hospitality room is open FORE quilling/learning/visiting.

If you are planning to submit work for the competition, please read the Competition Guidelines and let me know in advance.  The pieces must be secure and safely packed and mailed to me (with return postage) by April 10, 2015, in order to determine how much space is needed for display.

There are usually “giveaways” and a raffle/auction at the conference.  If you plan to donate any items please let me know and mark the items, so I know which are to be used for giveaways, raffle/auction, and which items are for the competition.  If you are planning to attend, let me know if you are willing to teach a class/workshop, give a demo, work on “Make-it/Take-its”, or possibly be a greeter for the public.  At this time I do not have local help and these events take a lot of work and planning so any help you can offer will make my job a little easier.

Each year the event gets bigger and better.  Thanks to the generosity of the members who volunteer their services and their expertise, we are able to offer a variety of classes/workshops at no extra charge.  Please remember to pack your own quilling tools, glue, scissors, etc. (they can travel in your checked luggage) and extra paper to try out all of the new things you will see and learn.  I am waiting to hear from you.  You can reach me by phone at 843-236-4545 or via email at smara6344@aol.com with any questions.

Your 2015 NAQGCON Host, Susan Mara

  1. This may be a silly question but I've never attended any conference before. What if I have a place to stay in MB? Do I "have" to get a room at the hotel in order to attend? I am within driving distance (NC gal!) so I'll have a vehicle to get to and from the event.

  3. Am I understanding that if you want to enter the competition, whether it be beginner or intermediate, etc. it must be golf related? thanks in advance.
